ABOUT TIM SHIELDS

Tim Shields is an award-winning landscape photographer and eCommerce coach. He is the founder of Photography Academy and LaptopLife, the author of The Photo Cookbook, and the creator of the Photography Transformation Four-Step System. He specializes in outdoor landscape photography and he holds the designation of Master Photographer in Fine Art from Master Photographers International.
EARLY LIFE:
Tim's interest in photography began when he was 13 years old. He was riding his bike on Broadway Street in the City of Vancouver when he stopped in front of the camera store, Lens & Shutter. This store had used cameras on display and Tim spotted a Minolta camera through the window, and he instantly wanted to buy it. The camera cost more than he could afford, so he saved for months from the money he earned part-
time delivering pharmacy prescriptions on his bike. When he had enough saved, he bought the camera and ultimately took thousands of photos with it over his
lifetime. After buying the camera, he created a darkroom in his parent's basement where he developed black and white film. He keeps this camera on his desk to this day as a reminder of where he came from.
CAREER:
Photography was a hobby for Tim through his adult years. In fact, he describes it as a love-hate relationship. There were times when he loved it, and other times when it caused him untold frustration and stress because he couldn't figure out how to take the same gorgeous photos he saw others taking online.
In 2009, Tim began getting serious about landscape photography and combined family summer holidays with landscape photography trips to national parks and other famous photo destinations. After returning from a trip to the Grand Canyon, he stopped at a gallery owned by world-famous landscape photographer Peter Lik. When Tim saw the incredible wide-format prints in Lik's gallery, he saw what was possible and vowed to learn how to take magazine-quality photos.
For the next five years, Tim conducted extensive research and field trials to find a new way to take gorgeous photos. It was then that he discovered and created the Photography Transformation Four-Step System.

Landscape photography has taken Tim to faraway locations around the world in pursuit of the perfect lighting at carefully chosen locations such as the desolate sand dunes of the Middle East, the baking rock of Death Valley, remote rice fields of China, the mystical pyramids of Egypt, and soaring rocky peaks in the Yukon. Tim's philosophy is that the more remote the destination, the better the experience will be.
PHOTOGRAPHY ACADEMY:
After winning the prestigious award of International Nature Photographer of the Year, Tim began teaching other photographers how to take their own stunning photos using his four-step system. He launched TimsPhotos.com in 2018 which grew into PhotographyAcademy.com the following year. Photography Academy products and tools have been downloaded by over 400,000 photographers worldwide. These training products include books, masterclasses and coaching programs.
